Ransomware Recovery: Contain the Attack and Get Your Business Back

If your files are encrypted or your systems are locked, RSecurity's ransomware recovery team helps you stop the spread, restore operations and close the door the attackers came through.

Why Ransomware Recovery Needs Expert Help

Ransomware can stop a business in minutes. Staff cannot reach files, systems go offline and customers start asking questions. Every hour of downtime costs money and trust.

Under that pressure, it is easy to make the situation worse. Wiping infected machines, restoring backups that are also infected or rushing to pay can destroy evidence and recovery options. Professional ransomware recovery means acting in the right order, with a clear plan.

How Ransomware Attacks Usually Start

Most ransomware does not appear out of nowhere. Attackers often get in through a phishing email, stolen passwords, an unpatched system or exposed remote access, then spend time spreading before they encrypt anything.

That is why ransomware recovery is not only about restoring files. It also means finding the entry point and removing the attacker's access, so the same thing does not happen again next week.

Our Ransomware Recovery Services

We support you through every stage of a ransomware attack, from the first call to a secure, working business.

Containment

Isolate affected systems and accounts quickly, so the ransomware stops spreading across your network.

Investigation

Identify the ransomware involved, how the attackers got in and which systems and data were affected.

Data and System Restoration

Restore systems and data from clean backups or other available recovery options, in a safe, controlled order.

Hardening

Close the entry point, reset compromised access and strengthen defences against a repeat attack.

Incident Reporting

A clear record of what happened, what was affected and what was done, for management, insurers and other parties.

Ransomware Readiness

Before an attack: backup reviews, response planning and staff awareness to reduce your ransomware risk.

Our Ransomware Recovery Process

A structured process that protects your evidence and your recovery options at every step.

First Contact

Call or use the contact form. We assess the situation with you and agree the immediate priorities.

Contain

We guide your team to isolate affected devices and accounts while preserving the evidence needed for recovery.

Investigate

We determine the ransomware variant, the scope of the attack and the safest route back to normal operations.

Restore

We help bring critical systems and data back first, checking that each restored system is clean.

Prevent

We report the root cause and the security changes needed to stop a repeat attack.

What to Do If You Are Hit by Ransomware

These first steps protect your ransomware recovery options while you contact our team. Official guidance from the CISA StopRansomware programme recommends similar actions.

  • Disconnect infected devices from the network and Wi-Fi
  • Do not switch devices off, wipe them or reinstall systems
  • Do not open, rename or delete encrypted files
  • Disconnect backups so they are not encrypted too
  • Take photos of ransom notes and write down what you saw
  • Contact RSecurity before paying or negotiating with anyone

Why Backups Alone Are Not Always Enough

Backups are the most important tool in ransomware recovery, but they are not a guarantee. Modern ransomware often searches for connected backups and encrypts or deletes them first. Some backups turn out to be incomplete, out of date or never tested.

Even when backups are healthy, restoring them onto systems the attacker still controls can lead straight to a second attack. Safe recovery means confirming the backup is clean, removing the attacker's access first, and restoring in the right order.

Data Theft and Double Extortion

Many ransomware groups now copy data before encrypting it, then threaten to publish it unless a ransom is paid. This means that restoring your systems does not always end the incident.

Part of our investigation is working out whether data was taken, what kind of data it was and who may need to be informed. That knowledge helps you make clear decisions about customers, partners, insurers and legal obligations.

Who Needs Ransomware Recovery?

Any organisation facing an active ransomware attack, and any business that cannot afford to lose access to its systems or data. Ransomware often targets organisations that hold sensitive information, including:

Ransomware Recovery FAQ

What should we do first if we are hit by ransomware?

Disconnect affected devices from the network but do not switch them off or wipe them, because that can destroy evidence and recovery options. Then contact a ransomware recovery team.

Should we pay the ransom?

Paying does not guarantee your data back and can encourage further attacks. We help you assess every recovery option before any decision is made, and the decision stays with you.

Can our data be recovered?

It depends on the ransomware involved and the state of your backups. We assess the options at the start and explain what is realistic.

Should we report a ransomware attack?

Reporting requirements depend on your location, sector and the data involved, so check with your legal advisers. Many authorities, such as the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center in the US, encourage victims to report attacks.

How can we reduce the risk of ransomware?

Keep reliable, tested and separate backups, apply updates promptly, use multi-factor authentication and train staff to spot phishing. Together these significantly reduce your risk.

Do Not Face a Ransomware Attack Alone

Contact our ransomware recovery team, tell us what you are seeing, and we will help you take the right next step.
